foreign languages?

Why Americans like foreign languages. and by this I mean the language is not spoken in the Americas. Examples it would be French, Russian, Ukranaian, Hindi, etc.

Politically speaking American is fond of following "isolationsism" in its relations with the world. Spanish has become important because of the many Spanish speakers. If the Spanish people were not in a majority or a force so large, the Most Americans do not pay attention to that. It is the simple concept of NIMBY (Not In My Backyard). If things are not close to home, most people do not care. True for nearly all countries, not only in the U.S.. The problem occurs when globalization sets in. Now the U.S. is doing well, what happens when these bi-lingual, multi-lingual, people leave the U.S., and go to other countries where things are better? Either America will be in for a rude awakening and change their forms of education secondary school level and beyond, or be swept away and become a minor player in the global economy. Most people in Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin South, can not speak flawless English. But they can work quite well and speak their own language, at the same time. That competitive edge is mostly missing in the education system. So this "isolatinst" U.S. policy has created a "distaste" for foreigners and aliens, his cutlure and way of life. That means that everyone has to follow what people have been doing before them, learning and English only. This is just one aspect of why people in U.S. do not learn foreign languages as a group as a whole in comparison with other countries. Note to the person ahead of me. I think the question is not loaded, because we are reffering to the U.S. as the U.S., and the people as a whole group, not individual cases. There are always exceptions, the differences from the norm, but there are also general trends. Atleast that's how I understood the question. Most people know the U.S. in fact, learn more languages, but taken by persons as a percentage the total number of people, and that is where we begin to generalize.
